Stones in the River

Local fishermen have been reporting sightings of stone statues appearing in the river, growing more frequent the deeper into the forest the river runs through. None one is brave enough to get close to the statues, but each time a new statue shows up, and few days later the report of a fisherman missing follows. Now everyone is too afraid to go onto the water to fish, which is the main source of food for this little village.
One statue is of an elderly man, perfectly sculpted, a silent, paralyzed scream stretching across his face as he is reaching for shore. The boat he stands in is completely submerged, with only the front of vessel breaking the surface of the water besides himself.
