Ignis is a Fire Genasi from the Skyfire Wastes, in the City of Soldiers, Memnon. Ignis is first and foremost an optimist, and rarely gets down or negative about outcomes or the behavior of others. He also has absolutely no sense of personal space. He learned the craft of Rune Marking and how to become a Rune Knight from the Fire Giant Grimma that chose to stay in Memnon as a smith.
The NPC build is straight from the newly released Unearthed Arcana that came out on 10/17/2019. I got incredibly excited as soon as I read the Rune Knight and wanted to make a character right away. So, without any more delay, meet Ignis - Giant's Student!

Background - From a young age Ignis was fascinated with the world beyond his own. Memnon is a trade city, so merchants and caravans and travelers from all over would come with telling tales of distant lands and wondrous stories.
Being a Fire Genasi, Ignis's very existence is a rarity, not surprising, but still very unusual. Ignis was drawn to the only other one-of-a-kind entity in the city... A Fire Giant blacksmith named Grimma.
Grimma is gruff and not what you'd call hospitable, but Ignis' natural positivity and persistence melt through the Fire Giant's persona. Grimma began to teach young Ignis Runes of the Giant culture, and how they harnessed magic and could be called on to be released within an instant.
The Fire Genasi learned and mastered the beginnings of this craft, he then set out to explore the world he has heard so much about from travelers, fully believing he now has the abilities to survive the world he wants to explore.
I will say it again, Rune Knight is already an epic style class that really fits well with the types of characters I love to create. Fighters for me are always front line, rarely keeping at a distance and plinking away at baddies while others take the hits. But the weakness with melee focused fighters is the lack of utility, you can't really swap between targets like your long ranged fellows. Archer fighters counter this in a great way, but come on, taking damage can be just as thrilling as dealing it! haha
That's why I enjoy the Runes that you can experiment with, but I plan on writing a bit more about the class later, so I won't dive into the details here.
If you guys want to read the class for yourself, here's the link!
